About Us
Who we are .........
Offsite Education Limited was formed in April 2011 and is based in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
What we do .........
We provide a range of services to organisations such as schools and youth/community groups, to support them when taking young people out on visits or arranging for them to take part in off-site activities. We believe that following the 'good practice' that has been developed over many years, will not only keep young people safe but also provide a high quality experience in whatever activity they are participating. How we do it ........
Our services are designed to promote good practice through advice and training: Advice on all aspects of the offsite visit process from planning to evaluating; Training that is designed to raise the level of competence of specific stakeholders.
We can further support organisations by providing access to: EVOLVE, the market-leading web-based system that supports all stakeholders in the visits process; a visits Guidance document that will be a point of reference on current best practice for all stakeholders and which can be customised to meet the specific requirements of an organisation/employer.
We recognise that organisations will have different needs and a 'one size fits all' approach to the services we provide is unlikely to meet specific needs. Our approach actively encourages a close working relationship with our clients based on a sound mutual understanding of their needs and what we can deliver.
Who delivers the service .........
Ken Hutson, Director and founder of Offsite Education Limited
Ken was born and educated in Leicester. After graduating from Hull University in 1973 he worked as a Research Assistant in the field of Plant Biochemistry at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, the University of Dundee and the University of Hull before embarking on a Teaching career in 1980. After 25 years teaching Chemistry and Science in secondary schools in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire, he became the Educational Visits Advisor for Hull City Council in 2005. Having brought considerable offsite visits knowledge and experience to the post from his teaching background, he quickly established a reputation for providing sound advice and expert guidance across all educational phases, whilst promoting offsite learning as a means of raising the achievement of children and young people. In recognising the need to make the essential ‘checks and balances’ in the visits’ process more accessible and less bureaucratic, he introduced the EVOLVE online system in 2007 which has become popular with users in Hull schools.
In April 2011 he left the Council to create Offsite Education Limited in order to work more closely with individual academies, schools and multi-academy trusts involved in young people’s development, offering advice and training to support the provision of safe, high quality off-site learning opportunities and activities for their young people.
As an active member of the Outdoor Education Advisers’ Panel, he is well-connected with colleagues throughout the country.
